For Founders & Projects
How founders and project teams can work with Lumen, what to prepare and what to expect.
On this page
Lumen works with founders and project teams that are building something with a credible reason to exist - and are ready to engage with the network in a focused way.
What we look for
Lumen is not limited by stage, sector or geography, but the strongest conversations usually share a few characteristics:
- A clear problem. You can explain what you are building, for whom, and why the timing matters.
- Evidence of progress. A product, prototype, users, revenue, partnerships or another credible signal.
- A specific need. The reason for contacting Lumen is more precise than "looking for exposure".
- Readiness to engage. You have the context and authority to move a conversation forward.
- A long-term view. You are interested in relationships that can develop, not only a single transaction.
How Lumen can help
| Your context | Relevant direction |
|---|---|
| You need strategic partners, distribution or market entry | Lumen Connect |
| You are preparing a fundraise or need investor context | Lumen Capital |
| You need help with product, go-to-market or operations | Lumen Accelerate |
| You need experienced operators or specialist capability | For Builders & Operators |
| You are not sure where to start | Collaboration Process |
The directions often overlap. A first conversation can help identify the most useful entry point.
What to prepare
Before approaching Lumen, prepare a short, accurate summary of your context. You do not need a formal application or a polished deck for the first conversation, but the following information helps:
- What you are building. A concise description of the product, market and stage.
- The problem and why now. The insight or change that makes the opportunity timely.
- What you have achieved. Product progress, traction, partnerships or other evidence.
- What you need. The specific relationship, capital, capability or decision you are seeking.
- Why Lumen. The reason you believe the network is relevant to your context.
How to approach Lumen
The starting point is the official Connect page. Select the founder or project category and provide enough context for the team to understand your request.
From there, the process typically follows the stages described in Collaboration Process: initial contact, context review, alignment discussion, introductions and further collaboration. Not every inquiry results in an introduction. We aim to be direct about fit and timing.
What not to expect
- A guaranteed introduction. Relevance is assessed case by case.
- A funding commitment. Lumen Capital is not a fund and does not guarantee investment.
- A replacement for professional advice. Lumen does not provide legal, tax or financial advice.
- A public listing or promotion. The documentation is not a marketing catalogue.
- A quick match. The model is deliberately context-first, which takes time.
A useful first message
We are building [product] for [customer] in [market]. We have [evidence of progress]. We are looking for [specific partner / capital / support] because [reason]. We would like to understand whether Lumen's network is relevant to this next stage.
A message like this is easier to assess than a general introduction. It also helps both sides decide whether a conversation is worth having.
