Collaboration Process

The five stages of working with Lumen, from first contact to long-term collaboration.

Every Lumen relationship begins with a conversation. The process below describes the typical path from an initial inquiry to an active collaboration. It is a framework, not a rigid sequence: timing and depth depend on the context.

The five stages

  1. Initial Contact. You share a concise introduction through the official Connect page: who you are, what you are building or investing in, and the outcome you are looking for. A clear first message makes the next stage more useful.

  2. Context Review. The Lumen team reviews the context for relevance, readiness and fit with the network. We may ask for clarification or additional information. Not every inquiry moves forward, and we aim to be direct about why.

  3. Alignment Discussion. If there is potential, we discuss objectives, timing and the type of relationship that could be useful. This is where we test whether both sides have a credible reason to engage and what success would look like.

  4. Introductions & Opportunities. With mutual agreement, Lumen prepares and makes relevant introductions. Each introduction includes context on why the conversation is useful. From here, the participants lead the relationship.

  5. Further Collaboration. If the relationship develops, Lumen can support next steps through additional connections, strategic input or a broader engagement across Connect, Capital or Accelerate.

What we need from you

A productive first conversation usually requires:

  • A specific ask. The relationship, capital, capability or decision you are seeking.
  • Relevant context. Enough information to assess fit without sending confidential material prematurely.
  • Clarity on timing. Why this matters now and what a realistic next step looks like.
  • The right person. Someone with the context and authority to move the conversation forward.
  • Professional conduct. Accuracy, responsiveness and respect for confidentiality.

Timing and expectations

StageTypical timingWhat you can expect
Initial contactSame day to a few daysConfirmation that the inquiry has been received, where possible
Context reviewSeveral days to two weeksA clearer view of relevance and any follow-up questions
Alignment discussionBy agreementA focused conversation about objectives and fit
IntroductionsWhen both sides are readyContext-first, double opt-in introductions
Further collaborationOver timeSupport shaped around the development of the relationship

Timing depends on the complexity of the context and the availability of relevant participants. Lumen does not promise a specific response time or outcome.

What happens after an introduction

An introduction is not the end of Lumen's involvement, but it is the point at which the participants take ownership of the relationship. We may follow up to understand how the conversation went, offer additional context or suggest another relevant connection.

We do not ask for confidential details of commercial discussions and we do not intervene in negotiations unless there is a separate agreement to do so. The relationship belongs to the participants.

When the fit is not there

Not every inquiry leads to an introduction. If there is no relevant counterpart, the timing is wrong or the context is not yet ready, we will say so. In some cases, the more useful next step is to strengthen the project, refine the ask or return at a later stage.

A clear "not now" is better than a low-value introduction. It protects the quality of the network and the time of everyone involved.
